En los últimos años la cadena norteamericana NBC parece haberse especializado en un particular subgénero con la producción y emisión de cuatro telefilmes que recuerdan la realización de series clásicas de los años setenta como Los ángeles de Charlie, Mork y Mindy y Apartamento para tres. En la primera semana de septiembre se va a emitir la última entrega, Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Diff’rent Strokes, centrada en las tragedias de los niños prodigios que protagonizaron la telecomedia Arnold.
Unidos a otras experiencias como Growing Up Brady, dedicada a La tribu de los Brady, o The Late Shift, sobre la guerra entre los presentadores Jay Leno y David Letterman por ocupar el trono de Johnny Carson, estos telefilmes metatelevisivos ofrecen una imagen bastante poco complaciente del medio. Las miserias del éxito instantáneo se combinan con retratos de personajes obsesionados por el dinero y la fama en historias con un inequívoco sabor satírico. Cuando la televisión se mira a sí misma no parece estar muy contenta con lo que encuentra, aunque no por ello renuncia a unas gotas de sensacionalismo.
